There’s a rumor circulating that Noah Baumbach may direct 20th Century Fox’s film adaption of Mr. Popper’s Penguins, Richardand Florence Atwater‘s beloved 1938 children’s story about a man whose wistful obsession with penguins comes home to roost. There are also rumors that Ben Stiller may head the cast as Mr. Popper.

Have I died and gone to (penguin) heaven?
Actually, this is one of those very rare cases of, “now how in the hell can they make that into a movie half as good as the book?” Particularly when the book, the way I read it, was so Depression-era rich! Only a kid can put those two together and come out with something entertaining. Okay, and maybe Ben Stiller. Convinced!
